Part 1 - I wanna be a pilot!! But, HOW??

As usual, In a month, been few people asked me how to be a pilot.

The most surprising part is I was told.. "I wanna be a pilot and I think of applying it!"
while the other one asking for the info. of HOW TO BE A PILOT?

2 of my friends, they're basically doing their degree and soon to finish. Glad to hear it.
Well, I'm not so sure what has made them wanna be a pilot. Money? Career? Chicks? Job? Title? Status? Sound interesting? or.....? @@

Anyway, that's not my concerned and not my business at all.
If you sincerely dream/wish to be a pilot, go ahead. I will be here supporting all the information which you need to know.

Firstly, I wish you guys can understand for a thing. Aviation isn't the outlook you're currently can see. It has much things at behind which you still don't really know. Lets go for some examples/info.

Those who haven't read this 2011 news of aviation in Malaysia industry please read it up before you head towards aviation piloting field.

Well, no joke. I won't say it is 100% correct but it is as high as 90% the info. is correct.

Lets go into the chapter of....

"Application directly to Flying Academy"

In the past, when piloting was still an expensive course and the airlines was still growing gently..( before SARS, economy crisis and etc.) , market demands was really high for pilots. Airlines sends their cadets to the flying academy... with sponsorship.

Well, now, still the same. Due to the pilots' requirement has been loosen up, more and more people be able to achieve their dream and become a pilot (such as eyesight, height,... and etc).

Lets go straight to the point,

Neglect which course you graduate from. In Malaysia the min requirement//No matter how high your education level is, fall back to SPM certificate. In other meaning, take your SPM result out, make a photocopy->attach relevant documents->write a letter to DCA for approval in pursuing piloting course->wait the reply from DCA. If your SPM result for those subjects required are in credit, 100% you will get the approval from DCA to pursue your piloting course.

Piloting course takes min. 18 months. In this 18 months , it is provided that you pass the ground subject with 1st attempt, when schedule you for a flight, the weather is co-operate with you all the time (which means, you need not to keep canceling your flight for practicing purpose). Other than that will be hoping for no backlog. Then grad. in 18 months is a possible.

None of the flying academy at the moment provide neither sponsorship nor scholarship in piloting except airlines. Different airlines having different company policy. Bonding will be different as well.
Course fees for piloting is a plus minus of RM 250,000. (Depends on the fuel price which may fluctuate from time to time so with the currency to pounds/Europe money)

As per the chart, there are 8 Flying Academies in Malaysia. That's the latest info. on 18th Jan 2011. Anyway, for the academy in Sandakan, the flying school is no longer named as Austral Academy but is International Training Aero Academy, IATA (formerly known as IFAS/Austral Academy). From the chart above, check out which flying Academy you're interested to study at. (Based on your location, academy facilities, aircraft fleets, establishment and etc.. whichever you like. Next, google up the name and get the contact number and reach them. As simple as that.)

For Private student/application straight to the flying academy/self-sponsored,

Procedures are as follow,

1. SPM result, make a photocopy->attach relevant documents->write a letter to DCA for approval in pursuing piloting course->wait the reply from DCA. If your SPM result for those subjects required are in credit, 100% you will get the approval from DCA to pursue your piloting course.

2. Go to any panel doctor (Make an appointment 1st. list of the panel doctors is obtainable from the flying academy which you would like to join. From there, pick up a panel doctor which near to your current location.) -> do the medical check up -> Get your Class 1 medical.

*After step 1 and 2, call up your flying academy whether is there any entry test be conducted. (Lately, more and more flying academy starts to conduct entry test to eliminate those spoil apples. Prevent parents invest the wrong money for their child and to make sure the academy reputation is still up to the standard)

3. Go back to the flying Academy -> submit the approval letter from DCA + Class 1 medical report + Booking fees for your enrollment into that batch&1st payment(monthly installment) to the Academy (registration department).

The rest of it is...your own role, study, fly, tests, exams and pay.
